Maker: Henry / Corbin
Scarce and highly decorative antique world map in hemispheres. It features ten panels of engraved scenes at the sides and bottom. The map shows limited detail with only major features noted (in French). The map is surrounded by vignettes of the bounty of the countryside including rabbits, fruit and nuts, an eagle, and some military weapons. The panels shows ship battles, and a land battle with Napoleon on horseback, plus idyllic scenes of the countryside, including a fox hunt. Above the map is the large title panel with fancy scroll work. All is surrounded by a decorative scroll and vine border. This map is scarce, if not rare, with no information available on Henry. This map was published in the Nouvelle Geographie et Statistique de la France... 1842 (5th edition) by Alexandre Corbin. Very good antique condition with folds as issued, some mild spots/foxing. Measures approx.
