Antique hand-colored map, from S. Augustus Mitchell's "A New Universal Atlas, Containing Maps of the Various Empires, Kingdoms, States and Republics of the World, With a Special Map of Each of the United States, Plans of Cities, etc.", 1849. Early county boundaries. Wisconsin became a state just the year before this map was published. It is likely one of the first maps published of the state of Wisconsin. Very good overall antique condition, with mild toning, some minor spots, and some small tears at the paper edges. Tight margin at left. Measures approx. 16 x 13 inches to the neatline.
