Antique print showing people gathering Spanish moss in the area of the Lower Mississippi River. Spanish moss, a plant native to the Southern United States, was a valuable commodity, used as packing material and as a replacement for horsehair in upholstery and mattress stuffing. Published in William Cullen Bryant's classic 1872 work, "Picturesque America." Very good antique condition with some toning of the paper, which is heaver at the outer edges. Recent hand-coloring. Image measures approximately 9.25" x 6.5", with caption. Page overall measures approx. 12.5". x 9.5".
