Genuine Antique Map

1775

Maker: Nolin

Antique map of the Anjou area of France, from a composite atlas circa 1775. The Duchy of Anjou was a French province straddling the lower Loire. Its capital was Angers. A composite atlas is an atlas made up of a selection of previously issued maps. This atlas appears to have been partly by Louis Charles Desnos and an atlas title page dated 1769 by Desnos was present. The full title translates to "MILITARY GOVERNMENT OF THE PROVINCE AND DUCHY OF ANJOU GOVERNMENT OF SAUMUROIS Drafted by J.B. Nolin, geographer. in Paris at Longchamps, 5. Jacques, at the sign of Place des Victoires. 1759. / DIRECTORATE OF ANGERS Divided into its salt granaries and warehouses, it also houses the offices for the Treaties. Drawn up by J.B. Nolin, geographer. 1759." This map has original hand-coloring and shows cities, towns, villages, rivers, topographic detail, etc. Includes Richelieu, Nantes, Craon, and more. Good to very good antique condition with some minor spots in the margins, some light surface soil. Measures approx. 18.75 x 24 inches to the neatline.
