Full Title: To His Excellency William Tryon Esq., Captain General & Governor in Chief of the Province of New-York &&c. This Map of the Country of the VI Nations Proper, with part of the Adjacent Colonies is humbly inscribed by his Excellency's Most Obedient humble Servant Guy Johnson 1771

Antique map showing the region controlled by the Six Nations in the province of New York, engraved and printed by J.E. Gavit, from the Documentary History of the State of New York, 1850. This is a 19th century reprint of Guy Johnson's 1771 map. "Copied from the original Manuscript Map in State Library." The legend key includes markings for "Indian Villages, Chief Towns or Large Villages, Indian Paths, [and] the Boundary Settled with the Indians in 1768 as described by a ----- Line." The map extends from Crown Point, Toronto, and Ticonderoga in the north to Rhinebeck in the southeast. The area between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario shows Fort Schlosser and Fort Erie on the western edge of the map and "Part of Massachusetts Bay" and "Part of Connecticut"lie on the east. Some of the Finger Lakes are shown. West of Lake George reads, "The Boundary of New York not being Closed this part of the Country still belongs to the Mohocks". Very good condition with image transfer. Fold as issued. Measures approx. 8 x 11.75 inches to the neatline.
