Antique black and white engraved map of North and South Carolina, by J. Denison for Jedidiah Morse, in "The American Universal Geography", 1796 (engraved by Doolittle). This map was published shortly after the Revolutionary War and shows the settlement with counties indicated throughout North Carolina, while South Carolina is divided into Districts and some Native settlements are noted in the western portion. The "West Boundary of North Carolina" is notably farther east than it is t today, either because it was changed or because it was discovered that the mountains that served as a boundary were farther west than believed. This map has been professionally and archivally cleaned. Very good re stored condition, some mild signs of age. Measures approx. 7.75 x 9 inches.
