Genuine Antique Engraved Illustration

1869

Maker: Harper's Weekly.

Matted antique uncolored engraved illustration of the Wesleyan Female College in Cincinnati, Ohio. This print depicts the main hall of Cincinnati Wesleyan College, which was founded in 1842. The college was created to fill the need of educating young women and the original name was changed to Wesleyan Female College in 1846. It changed its name once again in 1869 to Cincinnati Wesleyan College. It closed in 1892. It is unclear what happened to the buildings after that, though they were likely razed in the 1900s. Published in Harper's Weekly Magazine, 1869. Good to very good overall antique condition with very mild toning and one spot of noticeable foxing near the caption. Matted with a light tan mat with black core. Image measures approximately 4.75" x 7" to the neatline. Matted to measure approx. 8.75" x 11" overall.
