Antique black and white map of Ostend, Belgium (then the Spanish Netherlands) during the War of the Spanish Succession. From "The History of England, by Mr. Rapin de Thoyras. Continued from the Revolution [of 1688] to the Accession of King George II by N. Tindal" published in 1745. Engraved by I. Basire. The decorative cartouche holds the key to the numbers and letters on the map. The Allies took the town after heavy bombardment, led by Henry, Count of Nassau, Lord of Overkirk, a Dutch military general. Very good condition with some small archivally repaired tears & wear at the paper edges. Folds as issued. Some slight image transfer or ghosting. Approx. 14 x 18.5 inches to the neatline. Page size is approx. 15.5 x 19.75 inches.
