Genuine Antique Printed Color Pictorial Map

1929

Maker: Capon .

Colorful early 20th century map of Boston commissioned by The Boston Five Cents Savings Bank and drawn by Charles R. Capon in 1929, on the eve of the stock market crash and the Great Depression. The city is depicted as a neat and tidy collection of red-roofed buildings with the bank holding center stage and other landmarks--the State House, Old North Church, Faneuil Hall, etc.--prominently labeled with scrolls, and the Public Garden with its swans and flowers. Eight heraldic shields labeled Medicine, Law, Science, Industry, Letters, Music, Art and Trade convey civic pride. Outer paper jacket is attached at the back - outer jacket is dirty but the map is  clean.  With folds as issued, full map unfolded measures 18.25 x 24 inches, very good condition with some small seam separations at edges.
