Antique printed color pictorial map of Roanoke Island and the vicinity in North Carolina, by Day Lowry and copyrighted by Elaine Cochran Goode, c. 1927. This map features a romantic perspective of the settlers and native peoples and has many illustrations of sunken ships, local peoples, native settlements, and a large illustration at bottom around the cartouche. It seems that this map was published to commemorate the birth of Virginia Dare. It is in very good condition, with overall toning. It is printed on a stiff paper board. Approx. 16 x 22 inches to the neatline.
