1820
Maker: Scoresby / Constable
Antique map of the Greenland Sea published by A. Constable & Co., 1820. Probably from Scoresby's 1820 Account of the Arctic Regions. This map shows the area between Greenland and Spitzbergen with notes about ice types and locations. Ice was a significant concern for sailing ships. Ice kept the ships from getting very far in certain areas, and many explorers either perished or spent winters, if not years, in the Arctic while their ships were icebound. Measures approx. 8.75 x 7.5 inches to the neatline. Very good antique condition with toning and some tiny spots.
