Maker: Reproduction.
High-quality hand-printed and hand colored reproduction of an antique map of part of the Southern Atlantic coast by John Speed from 1676. This map is based partially on the descriptions of an exploration by John Lederer, although many believe he may have made up parts of his exploration, and several elements on the map seem to have been invented (the Deserta Arenosa, the Savana, and Lake Ashley). Lederer's supposed route is marked on the map. An original of this map is very valuable and you can find a lot more information about the map online. This reproduction was made using a combination of modern technology and traditional methods, wherein an original is scanned, its likeness is digitally etched onto an engraving plate, then the plate is used to print the image in the traditional way, with a printing press. It is then hand colored. Visible plate mark. Approx. 17 x 22.5 inches to the image border. Has some imperfections that give the map a more authentic look. For other reproductions made in this method, please see the left side bar category "Digitally Engraved Specialty Reproductions".
