Maker: Ballou's Pictorial
Antique hand colored print showing a boat race on the Charles River in Boston, from Ballou's Pictorial, 1857. a photocopy of the text covering the race is included. It reads "The exciting scene depicted on this page by our artist, Mr. Hill, who made the drawing expressly for us, is the conclusion to the race between the club boats Huron and Volant, which took place... in the presence of a large concourse of spectators. The locality is faithfully represented. The houses in the back-ground of the picture, are the fine ones recently built on Western Avenue..." A great gift for anyone interested in crew and crew races in Boston. Very good condition with text on verso visible through the paper (this effect can be mitigated with a dark paper or mat behind when framing). Inner mat area measures approx. 6.25 x 9.75 inches.
