Genuine Antique Printed Color Map

1877

Maker: Fayard.

Antique hand colored map of Turkey in ancient times, published by Fayard in the "Atlas Universel," 1877. Cyrus the Younger was a Persian prince who died in 401 BC after a failed battle to oust his elder brother, Artaxerxes II, from the Persian throne. The history of Cyrus and of the retreat of his Greek mercenaries is told by Xenophon in his Anabasis. Map is written in French and includes topographical detail. Very good overall antique condition with mild toning throughout, and some minor foxing. Measures approximately 10.25" x 7.75" to the neatline.
