Maker: Pease
Antique map published in the Documentary History of the State of New York, by Richard H. Pease, 1850. This map was made in 1850, copied from an earlier print of 1768. The original map was drawn by Guy Johnson and delineates the boundary line negotiated by Sir William Johnson at Fort Stanwix. It shows the ceded Indian lands covering parts of New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and the Ohio Country to reduce colonial conflicts. It reflects the massive land cessions from the Six Nation Iroquois Confederacy to the British Crown, which secured land south and west of the Allegheny Mountains. The map covers the Northern Colonies, including New York, Pennsylvania, and sections of New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and the Ohio country, including an inset of the remaining part of Ohio. Measures approx. 11.25 x 16.75 inches to the neatline. Folds as issued. Very good antique condition with a small tear on the right side and a minor stain on left side edge.
