Genuine Antique Print

1855

Maker: Appleton

Antique steel engraving print published in The Scenery of The United States by D. Appleton and Co, 1855, which shows a view of the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. with a scene of people in the foreground. The original design by Thornton, seen here, was later significantly altered by Benjamin Henry Latrobe, and later Charles Bulfinch. The current cast-iron dome and the House's new southern extension and Senate new northern wing were designed by Thomas Ustick Walter and August Schoenborn, a German immigrant, in the 1850s, and were completed under the supervision of Edward Clark.

Very good antique condition with mild toning of the paper overall and a few spots of very minor foxing. Page measures approximately 7.75" x 11" overall. Note: any "rainbows" or strange patterns in the image are called moire pattern- caused by taking a digital photo or scan of the many parallel lines in the print- these are not in the print and we can try to take more photos if you are concerned.
