Genuine Antique Hand Colored Map
1849
Maker: Mitchell
Antique hand-colored map, from S. Augustus Mitchell's "A New Universal Atlas, Containing Maps of the Various Empires, Kingdoms, States and Republics of the World, With a Special Map of Each of the United States, Plans of Cities, etc.", 1849. The most recent states at this time were Iowa (1846) and Wisconsin (1848). The territory that would eventually become Minnesota is unlabeled on the map and wouldn't become a state for nine more years after this map was published. Very good overall antique condition, with mild toning, some minor spots and some small tears at the paper edges. A previous owner circled New York City in pen. Measures approx. 16 x 13 inches to the neatline.
