Genuine Antique Coast Survey Chart

1851

Maker: USCS.

Hand-colored antique survey chart of the entrance of North Edisto River in South Carolina, published in 1851 in the Annual Report by the US Coast Survey. This chart includes part of Edisto Island, Botany Bay Island, Seabrook Island, Rockville, and more. A few houses are noted, such as " Wilson's large white House." Has water depths in feet or fathoms, distances in nautical miles, a key to the abbreviations, a tide table, and sailing directions. Very good condition with toning of the antique paper, folds as issued, some creasing along the center vertical fold, tight margin on the left side due to the map being originally bound into a book. Recent coloring. Approx. 17 x 14 inches to the neatline.
