Antique hand colored map by Colton, 1865, Mississippi showing townships, cities, towns, rivers, lakes, land forms, and railroads. The Colton firm refused to compromise quality, choosing to compete for sales in the finer quality international market rather than the inexpensive domestic one. Because of this, all maps were engraved by steel plates rather than by wax engraving which was the most common method used at this time. Very good antique condition, paper is lightly toned overall with minimal light staining mostly outside margin, approx. 15.75 x 13 inches.
