Genuine Antique Hand-Colored Map
1870
Maker: Mitchell.
Antique hand-colored map of Utah and Nevada with decorative border, by Mitchell, 1870. Map is colored by county and includes topographical detail, as well as some notes regarding altitudes, the location of Indian settlements, and historic routes. Shows the Central Pacific Railroad, which was founded in 1861 and ceased operations in 1885. Emigrant road / Wagon Road in course of construction from Red Bluffs to Owyhee Mines. Early county shapes are interesting, and have changed from the same map published just 2 years prior. Very good overall antique condition with some mild toning and small spots. Matted- mat does not appear to be archival and should be changed. This map is shrinkwrapped and the sticker is on the plastic, not the mat. We have not seen the paper edges. Measures approximately 11.5" x 14" to the outer edge of the decorative border.
