1861
Maker: Johnson & Browning
Antique hand-colored map published in 1861 by Johnson and Browning. During this time the states in the west and midwest were changing rapidly and maps from this time are like a glimpse back in time. In this map, the Dakotas have not yet been separated into North Dakota and South Dakota, and Montana and Wyoming do not yet exist. Idaho does not exist and Nebraska stretches to Oregon Territory. This map shows some of the passes through the Rocky mountains, routes explored for potential railroads, the local native tribe names, and topography. Very good overall antique condition with overall toning, and minor foxing and darker toning in the margins. Measures approx. 13 x 16 inches
