Genuine Antique Bird's Eye View Illustration

1862/1894

Maker: Harper's Weekly.

Black and white antique illustrated Bird's Eye View engraving of the Richmond, Virginia area, from Harper's Weekly, July 12, 1862. Harper's reprinted many of their illustrations in the 1890s in their series of volumes titled Harper's Pictorial History of the Civil War. This image was included in the 1894 volume. It shows the city in the distance with the James River on the left. Troops and fortifications are visible in the foreground. Very good overall antique condition, with mild toning that is darker at the edges. Measures approx. 9.25 x 13.75 inches.

Note: any "rainbows" or strange patterns in the image are called moire effect- caused by taking a digital photo or scan of the many parallel lines in the engraved print- these are not in the print and we can try to take more photos if you are concerned.
