Genuine Antique Survey Chart
1867
Maker: US Coast Survey
Antique coast survey chart of Puget Sound in Washington, by the US Coast Survey, 1867. From the New Dungeness Lighthouse to Olympia and including Seattle, Steilacoom, and the area of what would become Tacoma. Seattle was incorporated as a town January 14, 1865. That charter was voided January 18, 1867, in response to questionable activities of the town's elected leaders. Seattle was re-incorporated December 2, 1869. This map was published during Seattle's period of unincorporation. This map shows the area of Seattle long before the massive fill projects of the 1890s-1930s, which transformed the city. What is labeled on the map as Duwamish Bay was largely filled in and built upon, and what was not filled in is now known as Elliot Bay. With soundings, lighthouses, tidal information and ocean floor data. Very good restored condition. This map has been cleaned and backed with light-weight paper for strength but it may retain some minor signs of age, such as tiny spots and areas of repaired paper loss. Measures approx. 28.25x 17.5 inches to the neatline. This chart could be colored by our professional colorist for an additional cost.
