Genuine Antique Printed Color Map

1880

Maker: Boschke / US Survey.

Antique printed color 1880 update of Boschke's 1861 map of the city and vicinity of Washington, D.C. Broschke, a draughtsman for the Coastal Survey department created the original engraved plates for the 1861 map with the hope of selling the map to the government. Instead he was fired for neglect of official duty and the plates were seized by the government. This is a later updated map. This map includes some property owners' names, individual buildings, and more. With depth soundings in the Potomac. This later edition adds color and a large section at upper left labeled "Available Site for Park & Reservoir." With fancy Victorian-style titling. Folds as issued. Fair condition with significant seam separation, some of which has been repaired with non-archival tape. Approx. 20 x 20 inches to the neatline. CSMTAW **SOLD**
