1860
Maker: Mitchell.
Antique hand-colored map of the World on Mercator's Projection, by Mitchell, created in 1860. North and South America are centrally located on this map. Major shipping and exploration routes, including Captain Cook's, are shown. A few parts of the coast of Antarctica are shown but much is still unknown. Someone made a mistake because the northern border of the US follows the St Lawrence river, making it appear that Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and part of Quebec belong to the US. Good to very good condition, some toning, some foxing, and some stains in the margins that can be hidden with a mat when framing. Measures approx. 14.25 x 18 inches to the neatline.
