Maker: Reproduction.
High-quality hand-printed and hand colored reproduction of an antique map of the world by Jaillot from 1694. Many parts of the world were unknown when this map was made, including the northwestern part of North America, Antarctica, and Australia and New Zealand. California is shown as an island and Terra Iesso almost connects Asia and California. Features a decorative border with female figures representing the continents in the four corners. Allegorical figures at the top and bottom center may represent the four cardinal virtues of justice, courage, prudence and temperance. Made using a combination of modern technology and traditional methods, wherein an original is scanned, its likeness is digitally etched onto an engraving plate, then the plate is used to print the image in the traditional way, with a printing press. It is then hand colored. Visible plate mark. Some minor imperfections in the paper give the map an authentic feel. Approx. 12 x 15 inches to the border. For other reproductions made in this method, please see the left side bar category "Digitally Engraved Specialty Reproductions".
