Antique hand-colored map of Africa, showing some political division, mountains, rivers, towns. This map does not have Lake Victoria shown (the lake wasn't discovered by Europeans until 1858) and it does have an interesting and only partially rendered "Nyassi or the Sea" near where Lake Tanganyika is. The Mountains of the Moon are noted (Jebel al Kamar or al Kumri) but not depicted with topography, suggesting that by this time their existence may have been in question. Very good condition with minor staining, 15.25 x 12.75 inches.
