Antique map of North America with hand colored detailing, by Tallis, published by Virtue, c. 1860. Map is surrounded by vignettes, including a view of Niagara Falls, and a decorative border. The railroads are depicted, all of them east of the Mississippi River and still under construction. It wouldn't be until the late 1860s that a railroad spanned the continent. Good condition with some overall toning, some mild stains mostly at the paper edges. Two horizontal folds with some wear. Measures approximately 12.75" x 9.5" (H x W) to include border. SALE!
