Genuine Antique Nautical Chart (Restored)
1854 / 1856
Maker: Blunt.
Antique chart of the Atlantic coast of the US including Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and North Carolina coasts, published by E & G.W. Blunt in 1854 with additions to 1856. This chart was made using the data from US Coast Surveys and includes water depths, lighthouses, lightships and buoys, sailing directions, rivers, harbors, etc. Good detail of Long Island Sound from Block Island to New York City, Delaware Bay to Philadelphia, Chesapeake Bay past Baltimore, the Potomac River to Washington DC, Albemarle Sound, and Pamlico Sound (spelled Pamplico on the chart). It appears that the Coast Survey had done significant survey work in the northern areas on this chart but had not yet surveyed parts of Virginia and North Carolina, resulting in some interesting areas were little is recorded beyond the basic shape of the coast and a handful of water depths. This stunning chart has been professionally restored- cleaned, deacidified, and backed with fabric. It still retains some signs of age including mild remaining stains, some wrinkling of the antique paper, and repaired tears especially at top and bottom. Overall very good condition. Measures approx. 46.25 x 31 inches to the neatline. **NOTE- this map requires extra insurance for shipping.
