Antique chart of Chesapeake Bay with the James, York, Rappahannock and Potomac Rivers by George Eldridge, published by Thaxter & Son, in 1886. This chart has an inset on the right side that covers the northern most part of the bay up to Port Deposit in Maryland. Includes many major cities, such as Washington DC, Baltimore, Chestertown, Richmond VA, Norfolk, Fredericksburg, West Point, and more. Original hand-coloring to indicate lighthouses. A previous owner used this chart for sailing / to navigate and left pencil notes, including circles around the lighthouses, possibly to show the arc of illumination. Good antique condition with overall toning, some surface soiling, minor wear at the edges, some mild vertical wrinkling and horizontal creases. Backed on original linen.
