Maker: Coulton Waugh.
Hand-colored antique Map of Old Cape Cod, The land of Bold Explorers, Heroic Pilgrims, Hardy Seamen, Great Fisheries and Famous Ships by Coulton Waugh, 1930. This charming pictorial map features incredible detail and plenty of Cape Cod charm! On it, each town and village on the Cape is labeled, as well as towns off Cape from Marshfield and Duxbury to Marion. The map also includes lighthouses, notable shipwrecks, the pilgrim's journey from Provincetown to Plymouth, a sea monster, the old man of the sea, and more. The decorative border comprises of small ships at the top and bottom and larger ships framed in a style meant to look like a sailor's valentine. The ornate cartouche is made of the Mayflower and two pilgrims. This map was likely hand-colored by Coulton Waugh himself. Good antique condition, this map was varnished, which was a common thing to do to protect the paper, which results in the dark honey coloring. The paper has a bit of waviness to it. Map measures approx. 18 x 25 3/4 inches to the neatline - edge of printed map. Total size with frame is 22.25 x 30.5 inches. We have included photos in varying types of light including indoor and outdoor. **Note: we recommend in-store pick up for items framed with glass.
