Antique uncolored map of Belle Ile, France, in the Bay of Biscay, published in the London Magazine in 1761. Probably engraved by Thomas Kitchin, who engraved over 150 maps for the London magazine between 1747 and 1783. This map includes towns and cities, topography, and interesting notes. Inset map of A Chart from Bell Isle to the Continent. The island was held by British troops from 1761, following its capture by an expedition sent out from England, to 1763, when it was returned to France in exchange for Menorca as part of the Peace of Paris. Map has folds as issued. Very good condition with mild toning and a tight margin on the lower left. Measures approx. 7.25 x 9.75 inches to the neatline.
