Genuine Antique Map
circa 1790
Maker: Bowen.
Antique Map of Asia by Thomas Bowen, published in A New, Royal, and Authentic System of Universal Geography by Rev. Thomas Bankes circa 1790. A fascinating map that includes Tasmania attached to Australia, early representations of Japan and the Philippines, a large the Sea of Korea, large Tibet, and many of the more recently discovered Pacific islands such as New Caledonia, New Zeeland [sic], Queen Charlotte's Islands, and perhaps a few other islands that never actually existed (Lekeyo Island between Japan and Taiwan?). Very good overall restored condition, this map has been professionally archivally cleaned and backed. Measures approx. 12.5 x 16 inches to the neatline.
Genuine Antique Map from c. 1790.
