From the first edition of master cartographer's Henry S. Tanner's "Universal Atlas", an early hand colored engraved antique map of Illinois, with fine detail of its extensive steam boat routes, including distances from port to port, and an inset showing the locations of the many lead mines and claims in the "Lead Region" to the north, bounded on the west by the Mississippi River and the north by the Wisconsin River, where there was a "Lead Rush" in 1827, from which the town of Galena got its name. Very good overall antique condition, approx. 13 x 10.5 inches. **SOLD**
