Genuine Antique Hand Colored Map

c. 1850

Maker: Mitchell/Cowperthwait, Desilver & Butler.

Antique hand colored map, from Mitchell's "New Universal Atlas, Containing Maps of the Various Empires, Kingdoms, States and Republics of the World, With a Special Map of Each of the United States, Plans of Cities, etc.", c. 1850. With inset of Charleston, including numbered key to major points of interest, and table of distances of Steam Boat Routes, etc. This map was published during a period of significant expansion of the railroad system in the US, making it interesting to compare with earlier and later maps.
