Genuine Antique Printed Color Pictorial Map

1960

Maker: Alva Scott Garfield / Scott-Maps.

Antique printed color pictorial map of Boston, MA designed and drawn by Alva Scott Garfield, published by Scott-Maps, 1960. This charming map features illustrations of notable buildings, historical figures, contemporary activities, and text with quotes, facts, and lore. The decorative border is made of famous Boston bean pots and cod fish. The sacred cod is featured at bottom. Includes Boston University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Northeastern University, and part of Simmons College. Also has the Alexander Graham Bell Tower at BU that was planned in the 1920s and 1930s but was never built for reasons unknown. This map has been archivally restored- cleaned, deacidified, and rebacked to give the antique paper more strength. Good to very good condition with some damage mostly at edges but some small damage in the map itself. Approx. 21.25 x 27.5 inches to the outermost lines.
