Maker: Engraved by George Hayward for D.T. Valentine's Manual.

Antique black and white map with hand colored accents showing northern Manhattan with Revolutionary War battles and troop movements, originally made in 1777 by W. Faden, then copied and republished in 1859 for Dt.T. Valentine's Manual. The full title is "A Topographical Map of the North Part of New York Island, exhibiting the Plan of Fort Washington now Fort Knyphausen with the Rebels Lines to the Southward which where forced by the Troops under the Command of the Rt. Hon. Earl Percy on the 16th Nov 1776 and Surveyed immediately after by order of his Lordship By Claude Joseph Sauthier. To which is added the Attack made to the North by the Hessians. Surveyed by Oder of Lieut Gen Knyphausen." Also shows the location of barracks that the Americans constructed and then burnt. Very good antique condition with folds as issued. approx. 17 x 10 inches to the neatline. **SOLD**
