Antique map engraved by Russell and probably from a Guthrie atlas, c. 1800. Hand-colored. Much of the center of Africa had not been explored and this map likely represents a lot of information based on hearsay. It includes a range of mountains and a note saying Source of the Nile. The Lake of Zambre on the map is close to the location of the real Lake Tanganyika. Very good antique condition with mild toning, and some minor spots. Measures approx. 7.25 x 8.5 inches to the neatline.
