Antique hand-colored map from the Atlas of the County of Suffolk, Massachusetts. Vol. 3rd including South Boston and Dorchester published by G.M. Hopkins & Co. in 1874. This map shows part of South Boston as it was in 1874 with property owners' names and businesses labeled. Includes Independence Square (Medal of Honor Park) L Street to Q Street, FIrst Street to 7th Street, and several asylums. This map shows the streets and properties extending into the water, indicating the plans to fill further and extend the land. Original hand-coloring. Very good condition with mild toning that is darker at the paper edges, some tiny spots. Slight image loss in lower left corner. Measures approx. 15 x 24 inches to the neatline.
