This antique map is in mint condition, professionally restored linen back with original case; with stunning, rich, unfaded original color. Only known example with original case and perhaps finest example of this map known. The large scale of 1.5 miles per inch allowed the representation of exquisite topographic detail, with symbols indicating hills, ponds, lakes and streams. Also shows extraordinary detail of cities, towns, roads, routes and railroads, significant landmarks, grist and saw mills, churches, schools, post offices, as well as public buildings and individual dwellings. With 9 insets, of Norwalk, New London, Bridgeport, Hartford, Norwich, Middleton, Waterbury, Norwich, Waterbury, Stamford, New Haven, and a listing of population statistics for Hartford, New Haven, New London, Fairfield, Litchfield, Windham, Middlesex, and Tolland counties. Soundings and other hydrographic data from the U.S. Coast Survey are given along the shore of Long Island Sound. Ornate, illustrated cartouche with the state seal, and beautiful decorative border.
