Maker: Colton.
Antique hand-colored map by Colton, c. 1861. This map shows the United States during a time of transition around the start of the Civil War. On this map, Oregon and Kansas are in their correct shape, but other states were still territories at this time, including Dakota, Washington, New Mexico, and Nebraska. West Virginia was still part of Virginia. The copyright on this map is 1855 but this was clearly published a bit later. Canada became independent in 1867 but on this map it is still British Possessions. Condition is good, paper is toned overall, some small minor spots, stains, tears at the paper edges. Some dots in pencil on the map. Text on verso is somewhat visible. Measures approx. 15.75 x 13 inches.
