Antique hand colored map by Colton, c. 1865. This map shows most of the contiguous states in their current shape and name, with the exceptions of the Dakotas and Oklahoma. The copyright on this map is 1855 but this was clearly published a bit later. West Virginia (statehood year was 1863) is shown but seems to have been added to the existing printing plate. Canada became independent in 1867 but on this map it is still British Possessions. Condition is very good, paper is toned overall, approx. 15.75 x 13 inches.
