Antique black and white atlas back cover page with two comparative maps, one showing the comparative height of mountains around the world, and the map below showing the comparative length of the world's rivers with a diagram in the shape of a globe to show the definition of geographical terms (such as continent, peninsula volcano, cape, isthmus, etc.) On the front cover of the atlas is the title, "A New Atlas," published by Thomas T. Smiley, and there are five engraved illustrations showing views from around the world, captioned, "Falls of the Rhine," "Siberian Hunter and Exile," "Tea-gathering in China," and "Volcano of Kirauea (sic)" (Kilauea) as well as a figure in front of a globe and a lighthouse with his head in his hand. Fair to Good antique condition with heavy toning of the card, staining/water damage, and some paper loss which affects the lower right corner of the Scale of Rivers map. Each side measures approximately 11" x 8.75" overall.
