Maker: Standard Oil Company
Antique pictorial map of the United States published by the Standard Oil Company in 1939 for the Golden Gate International Exposition on San Francisco Bay. Surrounding this map of the United States is a series of boxes with riddles. The answers to those riddles were found on images clipped from issues of Travel Tykes Weekly, which the owner of the map was meant to affix to the correct box. The idea was that Mickey and Donald were racing each other from the East Coast to the West, with Mickey taking a northern route and Donald taking a southern route. The images would show Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck engaging in activities as they race across the continent to the Golden Gate International Exposition in California. The original owner of this map only attached the starting images for Mickey and Donald. On the back, Standard Oil offered instructions on how to acquire the free magazine and care for the map, while Disney offered an illustrated story told in rhyme, Mickey, Donald & Nephews Adventures at the Fair. This map is in Fair to Good antique condition with some crayon scribbled in the riddle boxes at top, and a tear in the boxes at left. Mild wrinkling of the paper and slight wear at the paper edges. Measures approx. 19.5 x 26.75 inches to the paper edges.
