Genuine Antique Map
1930s
Maker: E. Karolyn Ries
Antique pictorial map of Oregon Territory, which included Washington, Idaho, British Columbia, and parts of Montana and Wyoming (stretching northward to the fabled 54-40). This map was designed and drawn by E. Karolyn Ries, probably in the 1930s. This map is filled with illustrations and historical notes, including the ships of five notable explorers who visited the area: Cook, Vancouver, Drake, Heceta, and Captain Robert Gray aboard the Columbia at the mouth of the river he named. This map is quite rare: one copy of the map is listed in OCLC, at Yale University, and another was sold at auction in 2023, making this only the third known example. Very good antique condition with minor stains and wear in the margins, including pin holes in the corners. Some wrinkles in the antique paper. This map was rolled and retains some curl, although it is currently packaged flat to reduce the roll. Measures approx. 21.25 x 16 inches to the paper edges.
