Genuine Antique Map

1775

Maker: Delafosse

Antique map of the Orleans area of France, from a composite atlas circa 1775. Orléans is a city on the banks of the Loire River in north-central France, and it’s the capital of the Centre-Val de Loire region. A composite atlas is an atlas made up of a selection of previously issued maps. This atlas appears to have been partly by Louis Charles Desnos and an atlas title page dated 1769 by Desnos was present. The full title translates to "NEW MAP OF THE GENERAL GOVERNMENT OF ORLEANS Drafted according to Astronomical Observations and Topographical and Trigonometric Maps of France, drawn up by order of the King by the Royal Academy of Sciences DEDICATED TO H.S.H. MONSIGNOR THE DUKE OF ORLEANS By his most humble and respectful Servant DELAFOSSE, Geography M.D.CC.LXI[1761] With the King's Privilege In Paris" This map has original hand-coloring and shows cities, towns, villages, rivers, topographic detail, etc. Includes Chartres, Auxerre, Blois, and more. Good to very good antique condition with some minor spots in the margins, some wrinkling at the paper edges, and a crease at center. Measures approx. 19.5 x 26 inches to the neatline.
