Antique blue back nautical chart by James Imray & Son, London, 1889 and corrected to 1890. This chart is part of a series of charts used to navigate the western route to China for the China Trade. South China Sea, north-east of Borneo, includes north west coast of Borneo, Palawan Island in the Philippines, Sarawak, Brunei, south east coast "Cochin China" now known as Vietnam near Phan Thiet. Four inset maps showing the southwestern extremity of Palawan Island, Bruni and Labouan, Balambangan Island, and Ambong Bay. Good condition overall, tightly rolled, with toning, minor surface soiling, and other signs of age. Approx. 40 x 49 inches. This chart appears to have been professionally restored. It will frame beautifully but may require some flattening.
