Genuine Antique Map
1730 circa
Maker: Delisle/Coven & Mortier
Antique map of Northwestern Africa c. 1730. This map first appeared in Delisle's Atlas de Geographie (1700-1712) and was here re-issued by Covens & Mortier, with their imprint below the title. It shows from what is now Libya to Cameroon with Tunisia, Morocco, Mali, Nigeria, the Sahara Desert, Guinea, Barbary, the islands off the coast- Madeira, Cape Verde, and Canary Islands, and much more. A note at the eastern end of the Niger River explains that some believe that the Niger is an "arm of the Nile." This map is full of fascinating details and geographic information. Original hand-coloring. Very good antique condition with mild toning, some minor stains and tiny spots. Slight water stain in upper left corner. Measures approx. 19.5 x 24 inches to the neatline.
