Antique map of the coast of North America from Nova Scotia to North Carolina, by Johannes Janssonius, 1636. Jansson's expanded version of the map first issued by Johannes de Laet in 1630. Shows early depictions of Cape Cod, Long Island, Chesapeake Bay, Lake Champlain, and the Outer Banks. Mountains appear in colonial Virginia. The map is noted for its accurate coastal cartography, depiction of Lake Superior (possibly Lake Huron), compass roses, sailing ships and sea monsters. The names on the map appear to be a combination of Dutch, English, and Native names. Latin text on verso. Very good restored condition, this map has been cleaned and backed. Measures approx. 15.25 x 19.75 inches to the neatline.
