Maker: Hitchcock.

Antique map of the area of NH near the White Mountains and Carroll County, from an 1878 atlas by Charles H. Hitchcock, the New Hampshire State Geologist, one of the five huge colored plates depicting New Hampshire's topography marked with features resulting from glaciation, this one in the east-central portion of the state; pre-dating the earliest USGS topographic maps of New Hampshire/NH, the atlas was the first comprehensive map of the Granite State's bedrock and surficial geology; also shows late 19th century towns and roads. Very good overall antique condition, some minor foxing and a few very minor margin stains, map area measures approx. 24 x 20.5 inches, full sheet measures 33 x 24.5 inches.
