1630s
Maker: Le Clerc / Tavernier
Antique uncolored map of part of France, by Le Clerc, c. 1630-1639. This detailed map focuses on the Loire River and includes the cities of Orleans, Amboise, Boudin, Bourges, Chateaudun, and more . Shows an enormous amount of place names, small villages and towns, as well as topography pictorially with trees. North is oriented to the left. We believe this edition may have been published by Tavernier, who is known for publishing atlases with maps from a variety of mapmakers. Very good restored condition, map has been cleaned, deacidified, and lightly backed (thus repairing some small seam separations). Some minor signs of age remain, including mild stains. Measures approx. 12.75 x 17.25 inches to the neatline.
